Introduction

The Advent of Christianity

Christianity is a new thing to the Celtic lands. The Druidic religion is so very strong, it is quite unlikely that the Christian monks will have converts, they are very lucky to have acceptance as a viable religion. While in Albion there are Christian establishments, they number a paltry three monasteries, and five cathedrals. Druidic, Viktic and Nordic religions are running rampant throughout the lands, and with them comes their mythos. Where once the Celtic lands were a place of faerie kindreds, now there are also Alfar, Dopplegangers, an occasional Nordic Dragon or Sea Serpent, Gobelins, and the occasional GrecoRoman mythic beast such as a Chironae (Centaur), or Harpyia (Harpy).

Strange events take place around the Christians, seeing as even the mythic beasts snub them. Although magic does occasionally touch a Saint, in our current world, it seems there is a common misconception in the Religion that those who use magic are doomed to death. In this reality there are several beings, even humans (or mostly human anyhow) who have been around long enough to disagree. To put it mildly, the precepts of the Christian religion are more likely to adapt to the situation than to retain the JudeoChristian stereotypes on those who use magic.

Many people in the lands of the Roman Empire (the Mediterranean) are also finding themselves able to use magic, and the religion has adapted to it. The saying about suffering witches to live has become more to the meaning of "You shalt not allow a witch to suffer, upon pain of death". Ah, that's much better. Especially considering that the Pope is a magus!

Countries, Religions and Tribes

There are some drastic changes to the boundaries of countries in the time of 1250, Christian Reckoning (CR), from the 1250 AD we know and love.

Christianity is popular in what is modern Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia and Spain. The Danes and Swedes were crushed by the Norse, who now live upon the two Southernfacing of those peninsulas. The Germans, especially the Saxons, have taken over the Northernfacing peninsula which the Danes once occupied. Iceland and Scotland are Viking/Norse. The Anglos have taken over the lands to the West of the Saxon peninsula, the mainland (France) to the South of England is now Normandy (Normans), which is surrounded on the East, Southeast and South by the Franks.

The Vikings are mainly traders and merchants now, and though their home base is in Iceland and Scotland, they are found generously in ports and on the seas of all the Teutonic peoples. They seldom travel into Roman Empire lands, which means most trading between the Romans and Teutonics are by land.

Recent rumors are edging towards increasing aggression between the Romans and some of their neighboring Teutonic tribes. The Romans have been building up armies and ships, and the Teutonics are beginning to think someone is cooking up another invasion. Although the populations in the Teutonic lands have been modified by small wars between their peoples, the Roman Empire is becoming comparatively overcrowded, and the papal Christian religions are becoming more and more edgy by people not following their OneTRUEGod.
